Estudos mostram que o aciclovir reduz tempo de dor e cura em herpes labial1, gengivoestomatite infantil2,3, herpes genital4,5 e previne reativação viral em pacientes com imunidade baixa6. Também é eficaz contra herpes zoster7,8.

Mecanismo de ação
O aciclovir inibe a multiplicação dos vírus herpes ao bloquear a produção de seu DNA, com baixa toxicidade para células humanas.
Absorção e eliminação
Absorção parcial pelo intestino. Eliminado principalmente pelos rins. Meia-vida plasmática de ~2,9 horas. Em idosos e pacientes com problemas renais, pode necessitar ajuste de dose.
